The Life & Times of
Hayden James
22-24 Months

June 12th: "Man cannot live on Pickles and Toy Story alone"
Hayden's latest obsession, his Woody doll.  That thing goes EVERYWHERE with him, and yes the blanket too! It makes things really interesting when he's trying to carry the whole "Round Up Gang" (Woody, Jesse, and Bullseye, see pic below) and his blanket and try to say his prayers at bedtime.  But, he has to have them all.  His little bed is going to get overcrowded with all his 'friends' in there with him.  He totally and completely obsessed with Woody's hat most of all.  There have been many a frantic moments when we thought we lost his hat, but we've always have recovered it.  Hayden is always adjusting it 'just right' and one night I ended up having to take it away from him at bedtime.  We had lost it for a few days and when I finally found it and gave it back to him, he played with it non-stop at bedtime, that it was like an hour and a half after putting him down that he was still putting it on and off, he wouldn't even lay down, he had to be standing at the side of his bed!  (I think we have some mental issues going on here! :-) )  Needless to say, he absolutely loves him and it's neat to see him lugging this guy around, although Woody can be a pain in the backside........he's got these long linky legs and these big cowboy boots with spurs that get caught up in everything, especially car seat buckles and shopping carts.  It's quite comical.
Another struggle we've been having is Hayden's appetite.  He does not eat well at all!  I honestly don't know how he is growing with how little he eats.  There are a few things he likes, occasionally.........pancakes, spaghetti-Os (YUCK), hot dogs, and cottage cheese.  He won't eat it everytime you feed it to him, but it's a pretty good bet that a majority of the time he'll eat it.  But, the one thing he'd eat a whole meal of is, PICKLES!  Seriously, that'd be his breakfast, lunch and dinner if you let him.  And, it's any kind of pickle, sliced, whole, spears, etc...........that's a sure bet. We bought a huge jar from Sam's Club over the winter and it's gone already.  Dennis maybe ate a handful of pickles out of there, otherwise, Hayden James ate them all!  What a goof!
So, what all did we do this week?  Well, for the most part is what good in relation to his behavior, napping a tad bit better and not so many tantrums.  He is trying to squeeze through the stair railings (pic below) again and has actually fit his head through......I have NO idea how he does it......and in record time too.  The kid is as fast as lightning, no kidding.
He helped me make cookies one day too........he liked the mixer and it took a little convincing to get him to lick the beaters, but he started 'flexing' once he tasted how good it was! We also went to the new Pet Smart store and saw fish, birds, kittens and lizards......Hayden loved it.  The biggest treat this past week was his trip to Broadwater Park!  He played himself into a coma he was so tired!  We went and met all his cousins at Aunt Bobbies and played in the sandbox and in the pool.  He liked to check out the neighbors yard too, which kept everyone running after him, but all in all he had a BLAST!  I'll be posting those pics on the Summer Fun page...look here and on the home page for a link to it!  Then on Friday he went with the gang up to the Mall of America.  Me, Macy, Hayden, Jenny, Cecelia, Missy, Alex and Owen had our pictures taken at Sadies.  Hayden did good for about 1 1/2 minutes and then he wanted to run.  After working up a sweat and getting frazzled, we did get a good pic, but that's all you need, right!   He got to play with Alex at his house for a while and I think may have gotten a little desensitized to baby crying during the trip too.  Between all the kids, I think there was at least one baby crying 80% of the time...........Macy was the culprit about 70% of the time! :-)  So, I hope he can tolerate it better now that he's heard it more often.  He's still crabby when she does cry, but he's been much better about giving her hugs and kisses though too.
Well, I think that's about all for now!  Later!

June 18th: Ok, so maybe he can.........:-) Check out pics below!
Oh my.......what a fun week we've had.  Lots of excitement.  Hayden has been better at playing outside lately.  I think there is so much for him to do that he doesn't even know where to start.  So after enticing him a little bit to start playing then he usually stays put for a while.  But, he still loves to open and shut the patio door.......so annoying! :-)  He loves hanging out in the garage with daddy too.  He's helping him build a practice net for driving golf balls and a putting green.  Dennis has been obsessed with golf this year, so Hayden is getting in on it too.  Who knows maybe we'll have the next TIger Woods!?  We're still taking at least one walk a day, usually we do two, one in the morning and one in the evening, I need to burn off some of the stress that having two kids can give you! :-)  But, we take the same route usually so we need to spice things up a bit.  We ended up going over to my mom and dads one night to get a change of scenery.  Wednesday night we had supper over there with Mom, Ashley and Josh.  While supper was getting ready, Josh had brought over his huge inflatable 'sports arena', it's like one of those bouncy castle-things at the fair.....but his very own, and Hayden got to jump around in it!  He liked it best when Josh was in it with him........he seriously loves that guy!....and he's so good with Hayden, it's awesome!  Then after supper Hayden was playing around in Grandma's kiddie pool (if there's water, he's in it, no matter what it is, bird bath, dog dish, etc) and Josh found a really pretty green frog.  We wanted to see if Hayden would be scared of it and omigosh, he LOVED IT!  He bent over and started talking to it and talking and talking.  I had never heard him talk so much.   Then Josh put it in Hayden's hand and the frog stayed on his hand FOREVER!  He was planted right on the top of his hand and didn't move.  We wanted to make sure it was ok, so Josh picked it up and it'd keep trying to jump away from him and as soon as it was on Hayden, it'd relax and just hang out on him.  So, I decided that we would keep it as his very own special pet, so Josh made a little home to keep it in until we could find something more long term.  Hayden kicked and screamed when we had to go in the house.  We insisted on a bath that night at Grandmas since he'd been playing with the frog.  We couldn't wait to show Dennis the next day.  So early in the morning we went out there but this time the frog was a bit more skiddish.  He hopped a couple times away and Dennis was too scared to pick it up........so I ended up having to catch it for Hayden.  Be sure to give Dennis a hard time that he was too scared to pick up a frog for his little boy!  Later that day, Dennis toughened up and brought it back out for Hayden to play with, but the frog jumped under the fence and they couldn't get it,  Hayden kept looking underneath the fence and got a little bit sad.  But, he's over it now!
Then Friday we went to the Mall of America and went to the Underwater Adventures Aquarium and walked through the Amusement Park.  The kid had a BLAST!  His favorite things were petting the stingrays and eating a giant pickle on a stick!  The pickle pictures are below and we could not believe our eyes!  We had people all around us watching to see if he'd eat the whole thing.  One of the workers sat by and watched and as soon as Hayden was done he walking away, probably thinking, I've got so much pickle juice to clean up now!  Hayden only had a few bites left of the pickle, I think he would have eaten the whole thing but ended up dropping the last of it on the floor.  It was probably the funnest thing about the trip!.........and I'll be adding the pics of the Aquarium to his Summer Fun page later.  It was a long day and we got to stop at Cracker Barrel on the way home.  He didn't have much room for supper after that giant pickle.
Saturday we went to Bobbie's again and he did better playing this time........he wasn't as occupied with running into the neighbors yard like he had the other two times he'd been there.  But, he played hard and needed a good nap afterward  He did very good playing with the other kids too.
Hayden's new word, is enivitably (sp?)......"NO!!!" and it's quite comical when he says it, he screams it!  And, at the right times.....so his language is coming along, which we're happy about.  Well, going to run...........take care everyone!

June 26th:
I have a TON of pictures to add to the site, but I don't have time right now...........be checking back to see them.  Will be adding more to the Summer Fun page too............pics from Rochesterfest and the Dorothy the Dinosaur Dance Party concert (from the Wiggles) will be coming!  Another fun week!
Monday we went down to Rochesterfest and was on the hunt for another giant pickle!  Instead we found deep fried pickles and thought he might like those, but he took the breading off the pickle and ate just that.  Then he had a hot dog and some potato chips and then we went to the Ice Cream Social and he went to town on the ice cream, he polished off Dennis' cone and then put a dent in mine too!  Then he ended up having some nachos and cheese........I thought for sure he'd have a belly ache that night.  But, he recovered just fine, the kid loves junk food!  Tuesday me, Macy, Hayden, Jenny and Cecelia went to Medford and Hayden did pretty good on the shopping trip.  Wednesday we just decided to stay home and relax.  We did our usual morning walk and then just played and played.  Hayden is really starting to enjoy his books a lot more and will sit long enough for me to read to him more often now.  Thursday we went over to Bobbie's again and he did even better this time than the last!  He just has SO much to play with that the first few times he had gone he just didn't even know where to start.  But, he jumped in the pool right away and had all the kids laughing at him.  He'd goof around, get the kids to laugh at him, then goof around some more.  I have a feeling he might be a class clown with the way he reacts to their amusement of him!  Oh, oh! :-)  Friday we went to the Rochesterfest Parade and he did pretty good while we waited for it to start.  But, there were SO many floats that we only made it half way through.  He had fun eating the candy that was thrown over toward us but with him being in his stroller he didn't get as much as the little kids in front of us.  He kept signing "more, more" to Grandma, and he even tried to steal some from the teenager sitting next to us!  The kid is a candy-a-holic!  One of the little girls in front of us gave him some though which I thought was really sweet.  That night Hayden stayed over night at Gma and Gpas (and used his brand new Incredibles luggage from Gma) and then we went down to Decorah the next morning.  We had Jason Larson's 30th Birthday party/BBQ Saturday night.  It was out at Jason's in-laws farm and they had lots of room for Hayden to run.  He found a couple little girlfriends to play with but they were much older than him, they were about 8 or 9.  He'd take their hand and just lead them around everywhere!  But they were great helpers in watching him for us while we visited.  But, let me tell you how tough this kid is!  He touched the electric fence twice but only cried once!  Dennis said he ran so quick to the fence he couldn't get to him in time......cried when he touched it.  But then, about 5 minutes later did it again and didn't do anything that time!  Yikes!  So, I guess investing in a shock collar to get him to listen probably won't work!......hee, hee...jk of course!  He played very hard at Gma and Gpa Reckwards of course but we ended up having to leave really early on Sunday.  We had a Dorothy the Dinosaur Dance Party to go to up in the Cities.  We met Missy and Alex and took the kids to the show.  We are huge fans of The Wiggles and thought this would be a fun thing to do.  It was so cute, we were walking with the kids in the skyway and I was holding Hayden's hand, who then was holding Alex's hand who was holding his mommy's hand.  And the boys would just chatter with each other and they played so good together.  They lasted only about 20 minutes of the show before they wanted to chase each other around the theater.  It wasn't full at all, so we let them and they worked up quite a sweat, both had some rosy, rosy cheeks by the end of the show.  They sang quite a few of their favorites and it was fun to see Dorothy, Henry the Octopus, Wags the Dog and Captain Feathersword..........but we would have really loved to have seen The WIggles themselves!
Now onto discipline, which I've been having a heck of a time with....Hayden of course has been quite a handful as always but about midway through this week I had a huge awakening and I'm almost embarrassed to admit it!  You know how sometimes when things are SO obvious you can't see them.  Well, a lot of the problems we've been having with Hayden's behavior I FINALLY linked to him 'acting out' because of Macy and the 'lack of attention' he is getting.  I thought I'd been able to give him as much as I had before but apparantly that hasn't been enough so this week I've had to really make even more of an effort and it seems to have made a big difference in his behavior.  I'm also really limiting how much our TV is on too.  He loves to watch his movies but I think he gets in his own little world when they're on and does not listen.  So, I've been putting the crackdown (lots of timeouts, sometimes first thing in the morning!) and am going to try and get this kiddo straightened out before I go back to work, wish me luck!   It's been a bit easier than I  thought since Ms Macy is a bit more mellow and easier to handle too.
A couple funny stories, but one is really gross too!  First of all, we got Hayden a tiny plastic swimming pool and I was filling it up with the hose.  Macy was in her little Hop N Pop out in the backyard too, but WAY far away from the pool and hose.  Well, I was then using the hose to scrub down Hayden's stroller which was a complete mess after our junkfoodfest that week at Rochesterfest! So, in the meantime, the phone rings and I'm trying to talk and wash and keep everyone happy.  Well, in the blink of an eye, Hayden went running over to Macy with the hose and got her wet!  She SCREAMED so loud..........that girl was ticked!!!!  So, I'm on the phone, trying to get the hose away from Hayden and comfort Macy who is madder than he**!  What a fiasco!  IT was his first act of brotherly terror.......and I'm sure not the last.  Then, one night he was showering with Dennis downstairs.  Dennis had the shower running and put Hayden in first, who would sit in the tub and shower and play all day if you let him.  Well, Dennis peeked his head in and was getting ready to hop in himself.....and Hayden was squatted down playing by the drain.  He was doing his usual "flexing" gesture showing he was excited and Dennis looks in his hand, and there was a little TURD!  EW!  That was the first time he's ever pooped during a bath or shower!  Sick , I know.
SO, I'm going to sign off on that note, leave a nice image in your head.  But don't worry, we're all disinfected and ready for another fun-filled week! :-)
Til next Monday...............I'm hoping to have more pictures added to his Summer Fun page later this week too.

July 3rd: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
This is what got me through the week and I'm not exaggerating!  What a week it's been with Hayden and I think by Saturday we may have figured out why.............Dennis has been working day shifts the past two weeks (which has disrupted Hayden's Daddy Time), allergies and he's getting his 2 year molars.
Dennis is now Hayden's most favorite person and follows him around anywhere.....so it's been very tough on him to have him gone all day.  I think he doesn't mind him gone at night because he's in bed aroun 8 or 9 so it's not as long he's without his dad.  So with Dennis at work during the day, that means, Hayden and I have been buttting heads ALL DAY long.  I sound so negative and honestly if I would have written this update early, like on Friday, I don't think I could have said too many nice things, I needed a few days to cool down and have a bit of a break of being the sole caregiver  I am hoping that you mother of toddlers can relate to what I'm saying and so I don't feel so horrible for feeling the way I do.  The week started out ok, but by Tuesday or Wednesday it got bad.....which leads me to reason #2 why Hayden was such a crab this week.  I think he either has the start of a cold or his allergies are back 10 fold.  His nose has been running non-stop, itchy nose, watery eyes, etc.  So, we tried Benadryl again, as we'd stopped giving it quite a while ago, his symptoms were gone.  Well the first dose, knocked him on his butt......he fell asleep within 30 minutes.  Then the next dose I gave him and the next few doses the next day, had the opposite affect.  The kid was wired and then refused to sleep for a couple days.  He slept ok at night, but woke up for a good hour, hour and a half time period around midnight and was bright eyed and bushy-tailed and ready to be awake for the day......that wasn't going to happen.....so it took some coaxing and a couple sippy cups of milk but he eventually went back to sleep. Then for 2 or 3 days he refused to nap at all!  He showed all the signs of his that he was tired and I even drove around to get him to fall asleep, and nope, he wouldn't do it.  One day while in his room he got into the baby lotion and smeared it all over his hair (see pic below) and then climbed up on the changing table and removed all the wooden letters on the wall spelling out his name, dumped the laundry baskets all over, destroyed his room.  He's learned how to do this VERY quietly because I actually thought he was sleeping at this point and didn't hear any of this going on from across the hall in our room.  So, I finally decided, NO MORE BENADRYL! which is good because the symptoms have lessened somewhat.  Then we didn't realize how much his teeth were bothering him until the weekend, his bottom gums were pretty swollen where the molars are coming in, so it's another explanation for his troublemaking.  But, my parents and my sister and her friends have been very good on stopping by and keeping him busy so I could get some stuff done and just have some time away, for my sanity.  I've always known I could never be a stay at home mom, and this week just verified that for me.......after 10+ weeks with both kids, everyday, I'm ready to go back to work, just to have some ME time.  Is that selfish?  Do I sound horrible?  I love both my kids SO much and I know I'll miss them while I"m at work, but I'm starting to get envious of Dennis who gets to go to work everyday and who misses out on the bizillion tantrums thrown a day and the numerous meals thrown on the floor , the headbutts, the slaps, etc.  But then, as my mom says, "he knows the wrong buttons to push, but then he knows the right ones too" because he'll hug you and as he's hugging you he pats his hand on your back, imitating what I've done to comfort him so many times, and then he'll give you these big long kisses, one right after another, that make you laugh so hard you're crying, because you wonder, where on Earth did he see anyone kiss like that?!......or he'll give you that big toothy smile,  those big brown eyes and that white blond hair and  that just melts your heart.  And with that, it makes you thankful that you were blessed with this beautiful child to begin with and cannot believe that he's yours!  And it makes you feel bad for how mad or frustrated you get because he's a little boy, not even 2 years old, and  you cannot believe how much he has control over  your life.
I think that's about all I'm going to update............I think you all got the point!  Oh, also wanted to add though, that the week ended great, we spent Saturday all together and went to the Minnesota Zoo and stayed at the hotel that Dennis and his family used to stay at every summer vacation when they were kids.  He enjoyed the animals and loved the swimming pool.  It was a good way to end a week from hell, we had a lot of fun!   I'll be making a page with the animals and commenting on Hayden's trip there!  So, look for our new Zoo page, coming soon!
OH, I  knew I said I was done updating but some REALLY big news.........Hayden went potty in the potty chair for the first time and now, can't get sit on it enough....so I thought I should have a couple pics of it!  He claps everytime he gets up from the chair now, whether he goes potty or not, but we have to make it exciting.  We also bought some pull-ups and Elmo underwear for when we decide we're going to get serious about it.  I'm in no hurry but if he is showing a little interest I might just run with it!  Will keep everyone updated!

July 7th: (finished update on July 16th)
Doing the update early this week as we'll be leaving for vacation Sunday morning.  It'll be Hayden's second year up at the cabin and I know he is going to have a good time..............playing in the sand, swimming in the lake, eating a ton of ice cream and just being with his family............I'm looking forward to it as well.  It'll be a nice way to end my maternity leave.
Not only am I excited to go back to work, I think Hayden may be ready for me to go back too.  I think part of our problems is, he is sick and tired of his mom being around all the time.  He's a very social kid and loves to be around other people and kids and I think he is tired of spending every single day with me.  He's gotten to stay over night at Gma & Gpa's a few times lately and he's really enjoyed that..........it really improves his mood.  And then, when Dennis is home from work, he loves that too.........so I've come to the conclusion, he is tired of mom :-).
This week has been a bit better........we've had our moments, but not at all like last week.  He got to see a lot of his family on the 4th and also his other favorite person, Josh.......who swam and played with him at my mom and dad's.  I have some fun pictures of Hayden on the 4th, mostly getting into trouble, which is what he does best..............digging into some potting soil and getting his blanket in there too.........trying to help himself to a beer..............etc.  He played so hard that day that he didn't have time for a nap and fell asleep at 6pm that night.  We totally missed the fireworks and didn't get to do one sparkler!  I was hoping for a little more of the festivities, but he was dead tired.......he didn't hear any of the fireworks around our house, and they were LOUD.  Wednesday we went out to see Shannon, Isiah and Josanne and the kids played on the slip and slide.  It was a perfect day for that and they have the most perfect yard for the kids to run.  Hayden did prove again that day how much he loves the water...........he got into the water before I could even get his suit on, so his clothes had to dry and then once I got him ready to go home he had to jump in the water with his clothes again........so he rode home in his diaper.  The rest of the week we tried to get ready for Aunt Tonia's wedding and for our vacation.  I think Hayden must have sensed the excitement because a couple nights at the end of the week he got up in the middle of the night or super early in the morning..............we're not sure what woke him up but it's weird that he's getting up again.
Saturday was Auntie Tonia's wedding.........and boy did he have a great time.  The kid was up at 5am, slept maybe another hour, hour and a half that morning and then flat out refused a nap.  You'd never guess from his energy level that he was that tired, because he ran non-stop.  It took about 5-7 of us taking turns to keep an eye on him.......and we were all exhausted!  So, he has the energy of probably 10 people.........it's absolutely crazy!  He got to try some non=-alcoholic champagne too.  We had hoped to stay for the fireworks at dusk that the bride and groom were going to do, but Hayden was WAY too tired and WAY too cranky that we left about 9pm.  We didn't make it more than a few minutes on the road before he was asleep and then he slept in until 8:45 the next day.  He definitely needed that.
A few updates on Hayden's language developement.............he's definitely saying "bye" and "ow"..............not many other words, per se, but a lot of talking still.
For the update for the week of July 9th - 15th, see our Vacation 2006 page................I have to start working on that now............the kids had a great time!

July 23rd:
Sorry, haven't found the time to get Macy's and Hayden's update done until now..............worked all weekend and have been very busy.  Enjoy the pics for now............of course there will be some funny stories to accompany the pics later!
I forgot to mention with the last entry that when we came back from our vacation we had a couple parties we went to with the kids. Hayden went to his cousin Emily's birthday party and had a great time.  Any time he is with his cousins he enjoys himself so much, and I think they enjoy having him around too.  Then we also had a baby shower with Dennis' co-workers.  I've been friends with his co-worker Jill for a while but finally got to meet a few more of them and it was great to all get together.  It was a really hot day so the kids all went in the pool and of course Hayden was loving it.  Him and Braedon were having a water fight and it's so funny, Hayden kept the grin on his face while the water was being poured on him!  What a goof!
Ok, for this week..........well, the big thing was me going back to work and Daddy being in charge while I was gone plus while I slept after my night shift.  Well, the first night, Hayden was being the little pill that he is.  Lately Hayden has had this thing about being a dog.......he'll growl, and pull out Haylee's toys and put them in his mouth and carry them around......so, that night the boys were playing.  And, out of no where, Dennis had his hand resting on Macy's lil chair and Hayden came up and just bit him as hard as he could.......and growled at the same time!  Dennis said it about brought tears to his eyes it was that hard!  So, needless to say, Hayden got punished for biting and then I think went to bed shortly afterward.  What a stinker!  But when I came home that morning he was so happy to see me. OH, and that morning he was up to his tricks as well.  He had Dennis up at 4:30am.......then 5:30am........up for good.  So, Dennis was wiped......and Hayden was strung out.......running around like a mad man when I got home.  But, he did fall asleep in his playroom that morning so it wasn't too bad, because I think Dennis must have nodded off too.  Then on Saturday he went on a playdate with Gma over to Bobbies..........he played hard and ate good like he always does over there.  Then on Sunday he played with his cousin Jayden for the first time.  She is just a week older than he is and they have not met until now!  Her mommy Denise is Dennis' cousin and they are very close in age and she lives in Mantorville.  The two had fun playing with the dog and with the ice cube while everyone else enjoyed a family picnic.  I had to work days all weekend so I missed out on the excitement, which included Hayden jumping off of picnic tables and trying to follow cousin Erica (who is expecting twins!!! YEAH Rich and Erica)  into the bathroom.    She got a little taste of what it'll be like with two.......Hayden is busy enough for two children!
Hayden is saying 'bye' really good and says this weird "ish" thing afterward.......I don't know if it's his way of saying, "Ill see ya later" or what! :-)
Oh, the big event, that I almost forgot about (NOT FOR THE FAINTHEARTED)........our trip to the doctor Friday afternoon.  I was working a day and Dennis was working an evening, so we had a few hours where our shifts overlapped, so between my mom and Ashley they were going to watch the kids.  So, I'm at work and I call home around 3:15 to see how things are going.  Well, my mom said, that Dennis thought he found a 'worm' in Hayden's diaper.....'or it was a piece of lettuce'.............so I'm freaking out because he had been having loose stools for the past two days and a sore butt.  So, I immediately call the pediatrician, thinking, great, it's Friday afternoon, if we got to get him seen we have to do it now!  So, I call them, they want me to inspect his butt........well, I'm not there.......so I call my mom back and tell her to call them.  Well, I call and Hayden is extremely miserable in pain..........he can hardly walk, he's crying, very unhappy.  So, I leave work with an appt to see our pediatrician, thank god!  They are thinking it might be pinworm........one word.......YUCK!  I'm freaking out slightly.  So, Dennis had kept the diaper  in the garage that he thought had the 'worm' in it.......I pull up in the driveway and inspect the diaper.  It's a skin to a sliced  hamburger pickle....the diaper is full of pickles.  So, I'm immediately releaved.........I was SO dreading the fact it might be full of worms............so I go inside and he's still very uncomfortable.  He won't get in the tub to soak, he's just crying and crying.  So, we get him dressed and take him to the Dr.  He doesn't even want to sit in his carseat he's that sore.  She looks at his butt and prescribes some 1:1:1 butt cream.....nystatin, maalox, and constant care.........$10 for this little jar.  So, we get home and Hayden is feeling better already.  So, he's up to his usual exploring and climbing.........I'm feeding Macy and see Hayden go into his room.  Minutes later I walk into his room to find him on the changing table with the jar of $10 butt cream and what I think to be half of the jar smeared all in his hair, face, body, legs and feet. (Pic below).........and my new found way of "counting to 10, so I don't end up beating him" is to grab my camera and take a picture of the naughty boy instead.....and also it gives me evidence to show him as he gets older.........so if I end up in an insane asylum, we've got proof why!  So, he get thrown in the tub and his hair washed about 10 times to get the oily cream out of his hair.  URGH!
The fun never ends and you know from week to week where to find a good story...............at the Reckwards!

Take care everyone!

July 30th:
This will almost be my last entry on this page as Hayden is almost 2 YEARS OLD!  Can you believe it?  We're getting very excited for his party, next weeks update will let you know how it is!
Ok, so what's going on with our big boy..........he's been doing so many big boy things.  He is really starting to play by himself really good and is getting much better on letting us know what he wants.  He likes to color and play with play doh.  He's not trying to eat either one all the time like he had just a few months ago........he's more creative with the art supplies rather than thinking they're something new to eat.  His language is really starting to sound more like words rather than baby talk.  He is continually doing the "ish" thing, but it sounds more like "eish".  He has a little toy of his that is rectangular and has a couple buttons on it and makes sounds, so he put it up to his ear and imitates me while I'm talking on the phone.  Well about 30+ times he would say, "bye, ish" and then 'hang up' the phone.  He did it so much that my mom could hear him on the other end of the phone!  It was so funny we couldn't stop laughing.  He's lucky he does this super cute things because it makes up for the days that he drives me bonkers.  And that was Wednesday.  He was so naughty and had so many fits I was ready to lose it.  He refused to let me dress him, all day.  Anytime I'd try to change his pants he would kick and scream, pinch and squeal.  It was awful.  But I've come to realize that him and I are constantly at battle on who gets to be the one in charge.  I think I should be because I'm the mommy and he's the kid......but I have to learn to be a bit more flexible and give him a bit more freedom.  Some days it works for us and some days it doesn't.  I think it may be an everending battle.
Tuesday we went with Shannon and her kiddos to Beth's house.  Hayden really took a liking to Beth's little girl Sierra.  She's an older girl and blonde, at that, and he grew pretty sweet on her.  The two would go off and do their own thing and be totally content.  They have a huge yard and a fun big toy that the kids played on.  Hayden took a tumble backwards off the platform for the slide, which scared us everyone, but he somehow knew how to fall just right and didn't get a single bump or bruise.
Over the really hot days this past week Hayden spent a lot of time in his pool.  He likes to just fill things up with water and then dump it out.........so to get a suitable container to do this, he took his bubbles and dumped them out in the pool!  I was so afraid we'd have a sudsy pool but it didn't get sudsy at all.  So, once the bubble container was empty he probably filled it up at least 100 times and dumped it out, on the deck stairs, the lawn, and even in the sandbox.  Then he figured out the sandbucket and shovel and 'sip' water from them.  He kept nice and busy.........and cool.  We've even been trying to eat lunch outside too.  He seems to do better eating if we're outside for some odd reason.  He did eat pretty good but then wanted to start throwing his food and plates.  He even got into throwing his sippy cup at Macy's head one day while my mom was watching.  I don't know who was more upset by it, my mom or Macy.  My poor mom is still reliving the memory and it just makes her so sad about it.  We don't think he intentionally did it to hurt her but he also has to learn to not throw things..........so I'm hoping he learns from it........he did feel bad about it later as he got punished for it.  A couple days prior a tractor Hayden threw across the living room literally missed her head by a matter of an inch or so.  That freaked me out.
Saturday we went down to Decorah and saw Gma & Gpa Reckward and Chad.  Hayden was very well behaved and played really good.  I can't seem to think of anything else to update right now..............I best get going.

Toot-a-loo!

August 7th:
Last entry for this page, Hayden will be turning 2 in just a matter of days.....wow!  The time sure has flown by but every day he is getting to be such a big boy, it's amazing to see the journey he's been on and just beginning.  I go back and read his weekly updates often, mostly to compare how he and Macy are doing at the same ages, but it just is so cool to have had this journal of his first two years and I'm very glad that I have stuck to it.  I hope he appreciates it someday too.  I hear so many parents say, I wish I would have written down those funny things they do and say......and I'm glad I have this outlet to share those things with everyone.  And, I appreciate all of you who read and keep up with all the activities and moments in our life. Thank you!
This last week has been a really good one for Hayden............we usually can only rate it day by day, but for the most part the entire week has been wonderful!  I worked quite a bit and I think he enjoyed the time with Dad.  On Friday they even went to St Charles and checked out the public pool there at the advice of one of his co-workers that is trying to get us to move there.  Dennis said Hayden had the BEST time there.  I guess there is a bunch of fun things there for the kids to climb on and play with and Hayden ran off and budged in line for the waterslide and made his way half way up the steps before Dennis could catch him.  He was not too happy about Dennis grabbing him and taking him back to the kiddie part.  All the kids in line felt bad for Hayden as he cried while being carried back.  He also wasn't happy when the lifeguard blew their whistles and made everyone come out of the pool......but it was time for Hayden to take a nap, so it worked out okay.
Hayden has been very affectionate this week too.........LOTS of kisses for me, Dennis and Macy.  Still a litle stingy with everyone else, but will usually blow them kisses instead as he says, "Bye, eish".......he's still doing that and we still have yet to figure out what it means!  And, it still makes us laugh! :--)  He's also saying, "wow", "ouch", "ball", and one morning I came home from work and I swear all of a sudden I could almost make sense of his jibber-jabber!  It sounded like he was saying, 'my blue blanket', 'what's that' and so on....it was so weird.  We're making progress and that is SO good to see.....I think it's a peace of mind for both Dennis and me.
Sunday was Hayden's big birthday party and boy was it a great one!  We had SO many of his friends there, it was AWESOME!  It was a bit hot and sticky......and the bees were really bad around the picnic tables, but nobody got stung and I think everyone had a good time!  We had Little Cesars Pizza (my new favorite chain pizza.......Mabes is still the best overall!) and chips, fruit kabobs, pop, taco dip, and cake......a feast!  Hayden wore the Woody costume I bought him for his birthday.......the vest anyway.........he wouldn't wear the hat, the scarf and took the badge off right away.......but I did grab some pictures of him in it, so that's all that matters!  He moved non-stop from the time we got there until we left and passed out hard on the way home.  He woke up that afternoon with the waffle-marks from his blanket on his forehead, he slept so hard.  I'll be getting his pictures from the part up very soon.........check back for the link.
I think that's about all for now..........onto a new page next week.  You'll be able to link to it from here or the homepage, but be sure to visit!
